What are the benefits of starting with a comprehensive dental examination?
When you’re beginning your journey to optimal dental health, you want the full picture so you can make informed decisions. At your first visit to us, we spend an hour getting to know you and your teeth. Our initial examination is thorough and detailed. We look at all aspects of your oral health. Our goal is to identify any areas now that could give you concern or end up as an emergency later such as a crack, infection or disease.
During the examination we assess your teeth, existing dental work such as fillings, your gum and supporting bone health, how your teeth and jaw function, perform a head and neck cancer exam, check for hidden issues with digital xrays, any smile enhancement considerations and evaluate other conditions that effect your oral health such as teeth grinding, sleep apnoea, home care or medications.
Let’s talk about your treatment plan!
We take the time to listen to your dental goals, concerns and previous experiences. We’ll formulate a plan to bring you back to full health and function. If you’re considering minor or more cosmetic treatments, we can incorporate that into your plan too.
Our dentists will be guided by you and they will also give you the information you need to help you make the best decisions for your individual situation.
At the end of your examination and treatment discussion, you’ll have a written estimate of your treatment plan. We’ll help you understand your insurance benefits and if you need a payment plan, we’ll help you through the process so it’s fast and easy.
Regular dental examinations
Your dentist will recommend the best time to return for ongoing care when your initial treatment is complete. For most patients, a dental exam every 6 months is optimal, tied in with your hygiene visit. At this dental exam visit, your dentist will reassess the health of your mouth and your existing and new dental work. It’s the perfect way to keep your mouth in tip-top condition and protect your investment! Regular examinations will pick up issues before they become a big and costly problem.

Can I discuss my budget or payment options at the examination?
Yes! We understand how important working to a budget is for our patients. We have lots of options to help you get the dentistry you need and deserve. We’ll always focus on your needs and the most urgent work first. You can also take advantage of our 0% interest payment plans which are fast and easy to sign up to – no credit checks. We’ll also discuss the best options for your treatment based on your budget or financial considerations.
I have a toothache. Can I get emergency treatment done at the first visit?
Emergencies are a priority. Getting you out of pain or discomfort is our focus at your first visit if this is the case. Once you’re comfortable again, we’ll complete your dental examination at the next visit. We never want our patients to be in pain, so a comprehensive examination helps us to identify potential problems such as decay, infection, cracks or deteriorated fillings.
Are my teeth cleaned at the examination visit?
A hygiene visit can certainly be included into your examination – just mention it when you schedule (or choose New Patient Promo250 when booking online). In most circumstances, we focus on the comprehensive exam first where we evaluate your gum heath and measure the level of the supporting bone around your teeth. Up to 30% of Australian adults have some form of moderate to severe gum disease called periodontitis. It can destroy the bone surrounding your teeth. This infection leads to tooth loss so a hygiene appointment to remove the build up of plaque and tartar is essential.
